The new Douglas Primary School, constructed at a cost of R105 million, was officially opened on Thursday (07/04).

A total of 1 000 learners and 22 teachers are accommodated at this school.

It is equipped with a science laboratory, media room, library, science centre, nutrition room, computer rooms and a combination court for netball, volleyball and tennis.

According to Geoffrey van der Merwe, spokesperson for the Northern Cape Department of Education, the school has been managed by dynamic leadership since its inception. The school received an award for the best parental participation in the 2021 School Governing Body Elections.

Dr. Zamani Saul, premier of the Northern Cape, officially opened the school.

According to Saul, it is the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, learners and communities to take ownership of this new school and to protect it against all forms of vandalism and theft.
