A 39-year-old foreign national has been arrested and dagga valued at approximately R12,3 million confiscated following swift police action near Colesberg.

Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, police spokesperson for the Northern Cape, said that on Thursday 13 November at approximately 05:00, officers immediately acted upon information received regarding the possible transportation of drugs on the N1 towards the Eastern Cape.

The vehicle, an Isuzu bakkie, was intercepted near a filling station, stopped and searched. Several bags of dagga were discovered on the back of the bakkie, and the suspect was subsequently arrested. He is expected to appear in court shortly on charges of drug dealing.

The district commissioner for the Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended officers for their swift action and praised the community for providing valuable information about criminal activities.

Mtukushe emphasised that efforts would be intensified during the festive season to combat drug trafficking.
