The annual cycling fundraiser to assist with challenges faced by early childhood development (ECD) centres in the ZF Mgcawu district takes place on Saturday, 16 December.
In this initiative of the Impucuko Development and Foundation non-profit organisation (NPO), cyclists will take on the 262 km stretch of road between Kuruman and Upington.
The event commences in the early hours of the morning and the cyclists aim to reach Upington before sunset.
The participants will receive support all along the route, with support vehicles accompanying them.
With the inaugural event the organisation held in 2020, Impucuko stated it will, for five consecutive years, host such an event on the major routes leading to Upington.
In 2020 it commenced from the Molopo Lodge, in 2021 from Pofadder, in 2022 from Prieska, and this year from Kuruman. Impucuko has already shared their plans to have Rietfontein as the starting point for next year.
For Impucuko, the support of ECD centres in the district in one of the main aims as these centres in previously disadvantaged communities need assistance to register as an ECD centre, and are in need of equipment or training for teachers and assistants, to name a few.
Their target is to raise R200 000 for identified centres.
