The annual Mokala Mountain Bike Classic, presented by the Sanparks Honorary Rangers in the Diamantveld region, takes place soon in the Mokala National Park, close to Kimberley.
On Saturday, 1 June, cyclers can participate in a 40 km or 80 km race, while a 35 km race takes place on the Sunday.
All routes extend entirely within the boundaries of the park, giving riders the unique opportunity to cycle past free-roaming wildlife.
Certain routes stick to public game-viewing roads, while others take riders along roads not normally open to the public.
Hestia Swanepoel, event organiser, says relevant environment and risk studies have been completed, ensuring the health and safety of cyclists.
Proceeds of the event will go towards conservation projects in Mokala, mostly executed by the honorary rangers.
Chalet or campsite accommodation options are available in the park, but day visitors are welcome to enter.
