- A man accused of having defrauded a woman he met on a social media platform of money amounting to more than R3,4 million has appeared in court in Kimberley.
Mojalefa Senokoatsane, regional spokesperson for the National Prosecution Authority, said the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court postponed the bail application of 47-year-old Pius Emokpe, a Nigerian national, after the applicant requested the court to allow him to get additional documents to assist his case during the bail application.
Emokpe, who was residing in Cape Town and was apparently using a false name, informed his victim that he was a biologist employed by a South African company. He was arrested after the victim opened a case in Kimberley.
The formal bail application was adjourned to Wednesday (08/06). The accused remains in custody.
- Stolen copper cables, with an estimated value of R250 000, was found in the boot of a suspicious looking vehicle during routine patrols in the Olifantshoek area.
On Wednesday, 1 June, at about 03:00, the Olifantshoek SAPS spotted a white VW Polo TSI heading towards Kathu. On stopping the vehicle, two male occupants fled into the veld.
The police found 242 kg of copper cables in the boot. The rented vehicle was confiscated.

- Two suspects were arrested in Daniëlskuil for being in possession of drugs worth more than R600 000.
At the end of May, Operation Vhuthu Hawe was conducted by members of different police units, and the home of the suspects was raided at New Stands, Hloya, in Daniëlskuil. Capt. Olebogeng Tawana, police spokesperson, said during the raid dagga worth R579 079 was confiscated, as well as crystal meth to the value of R77 500 and R1 600 believed to be proceeds of drug sales.
The operation proceeded to a house in Kuilsville and a third suspect was apprehended after being found in possession of crystal meth to the value of R250.
The suspects are to appear in the Daniëlskuil Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in drugs.
