Now he will be playing cricket full-time.

NCC made this announcement last week Tuesday saying they were privileged to sign the bulk of the players from the past season who performed so well for them.

These players formed the backbone of the team who shared the One-Day Cup with their Central franchise counterparts, Free State. NCC also ended third on the log in the three day competition.

Cloete has received numerous awards and was named man of the match on various occasions for hitting monster sixes, his excellent bowling performance and his all-round performance with bat and ball.

The other new signing is Andrew Rasemene who is a fast bowler from Limpopo. The coaches are very keen to see him play cricket at this level because of his express pace. His figures in an innings is 4/44 with a match return of 6/69 against the Central Gauteng Strikers.

NCC also took the opportunity to wish Jacques Snyman well, who has signed for the VKB Knights. The union also thanked Avumile Mnci for his contributions for the past two seasons.

Deon Carolus, assistant coach of NCC, spoke about his hopes for the upcoming season.

“I am very excited about the squad that has been assembled for the new season. We have good experienced players, some youngsters and most of these players have over time played either for the SA u.19, SA Emerging and SA Invitational teams.

“Our bowling attack has a nice balance of pace bowlers, right and left arm, and spin bowlers,” he added.

  • The Northern Cape squad for the 2020-’21 season is: Aubrey Swanepoel, Beyers Swanepoel, Kagisho Mohale, Ernest Kemm, Blake Schraader, Desmond de Koker, Garnett Tarr, Gerrit Cloete, Mqaleni Nangamso, Andrew Rasemene and Clyde Fortuin.
