Health authorities in the Northern Cape recently visited Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen mine to inspect the mine’s quarantine and isolation facilities.
Nomathemba Mazibuko, provincial programme manager of the National Health Insurance (NHI), says it is a pleasure to visit the various sites that Kumba has set up for quarantine and isolation.
“The mine’s readiness shows the business’s commitment towards this area’s sustainability.”
Lihle Sibiya, Sishen public affairs manager, says Kumba has put measures in place to curb the spread of the virus in the workplace and in our communities.
“We have also worked with the provincial Department of Health to source medical personnel to assist with 24/7 services and security,” she says.
The visit started at the quarantine facility in Mapoteng, a facility that is available to employees, service providers and community members.
The facility has a capacity to quarantine 150 and is equipped with fully furnished rooms with en-suites, wi-fi, kitchen facilities to provide catering and a laundry area.
The delegation continued the visit at the isolation facility at SIVOS, followed by a tour of one of the fully furnished rooms facility.
At the end of the programme the delegation was taken to the UGM clinic where the testing facility is located.
