Maryam Habib, a 2023 matriculant of the Kimberley Girls’ High School (KGHS), is number three on the list of the 20 top candidates.
Habib received the award as best Northern Cape learner in Mathematics, as well as in Computer Applications Technology.
“I worked very hard, but did not really expect to be part of the three top learners,” she says.
“I stayed consistent in my studies, and wanted to keep to my goals.”
Her favourite subject is Mathematics, for which she obtained a mark of 98%.
She achieved a total of six distinctions.
Habib regards the KGHS as a really good environment where she could focus on her academics.
She is the daughter of Talat and Sarwat Habib.
Just like Joan Blumenthal and Michael de Bruyn, she is going to study Medicine at the University of the Free State (UFS).
