BLOEMFONTEIN: The Toyota Cheetahs head coach Frans Steynย has strongly warned his players not to be complacent in the Carling Currie Cup premier division fixture against the wounded DLH Western Province, taking place today – Saturday 16 August. Theย double World Cup winner’s target is that his lads emerge with maximum points from the battle taking place in the Toyota Stadium. Kick-off is at 14:00 and tickets are selling at R30.

The outing against the Western Province is one of three important home fixtures for the local warriors. The other two matches in the Cheetahs slaughterhouse are against the Fidelity ADT Lions on 23 August and Suzuki Griquas on 29 August, respectively.
Steyn wants quality performance, and his charges to fully exploit the benefit of playing three matches at home. The assignment begins with the coastal opponents. โThe stakes are high in every match we play in the competition, we must build the momentum and consolidate our position on the log leading to the last round of the tournament,โ said Steyn. He has stressed the importance of his players to perform to their full potential whilst minimising the mistakes.
It is a must for Steyn’s charges to guard against becoming the stepping stone for the Western Province in the revival of their aspirations in the competition. The visitors are still languishing at the bottom of the log and are searching for their first win to end their losing streak in three matches.
Steyn added that it would be detrimental if his charges judge the coastal boys on their current lackluster form considering the critical stage of the prestigious domestic rugby championship. โWe are heading into a block where it is really important for us to play well, and take the points we can,โ he said.
The Cheetahs still have their tails up in the air after back-to-back victories and are gunning for their third win to keep the pressure on current log leaders, Airlinkย Pumas. The Free Staters registered two important wins against the Pumas, 42-25 and Hollywood Bets Sharks, 7-5.
The Steyn-led charges have recovered well from their shock defeat of 35-37 to Sanlam Boland Kavaliers in the opening fixture of the championship.
