A significant amount of cellphones and laptops, believed to be stolen from government departments in Kimberley, were confiscated by the police last week.

The estimated value of the suspected stolen devices is, approximately, R150 000, said Col. Cherelle Ehlers, police spokesperson. She said on Thursday afternoon, 15 August, members of the Northern Cape Organised Crime unit, supported by the Kimberley Flying Squad and Multi-Dimensional Organised Crime, executed a crime intelligence-driven operation at a cellphone repair shop in the city, where the devices were found.

Two male suspects, aged 37 and 42 years, were arrested.

Consumers and shop owners are reminded that the buying, selling, and storage of stolen goods is a criminal offence, she emphasised.
