A record number of cyclists took part in the 115 km journey from Kimberley to Hopetown to conquer the Brug2Berg event on Saturday (07/05), presented by Oryx Endurance.
Philip Piek, on a road bike, was the first rider to cross the finishing line – in a record time of 2:45:11. Second was Izak Strauss in 2:47:16, and third Ben van der Linde in 2:47:27.
In the road race for women Tania Visser was first in 3:05:44, Elmien Voster second in 3:06:08 and Karin Erasmus third in 3:07:08.
Gert Kruger won the mountain bike race in 3:09:06, while Stoffel van der Westhuizen was second in 3:24:05 and Dan Steyn third in 3:24:08.
As far as the women on mountain bikes are concerned, Carli Beukes completed the 115 km in 4:23:11 to win this race, while Carey Moraladi was second in 4:25:14 and Tindalina Geldenhuys third in 4:38:06.
On the same day, cycle events took place in 22 shifts, all the way from Beitbridge in Limpopo to close to Table Mountain in the Western Cape.
The concept was that by doing this, the distance from Beitbridge to Table Mountain was conquered in one day.
