Groundbreaking ceremony
The groundbreaking ceremony of the Dr Izak van Niekerk Oncology Centre in Springbok took place on 8 May. The joint initiative between Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) and the Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) aims to decentralise oncology treatment services in the province. Valued at R22million, the completion date is set for December. It will have ten chemotherapy treatment beds, capable of treating up to 250 people per month. It will be a relief to patients of the Namaqua District who must travel to Kimberley or Cape Town for treatment.
