So many essential workers are putting themselves at risk during the coronavirus pandemic in our country.
Not many have paid any atten- tion or noticed that during the lockdown that we still had running water, uninterrupted electricity and that our rubbish bags were still collected every week.
While millions of us were safe in our homes, hundreds of essential workers were willing to sacrifice their own safety and well-being in this crisis.
They are forced to risk their own health and that of their families so that many more lives can be protected.
Many might say it is their duty, but we should all be grateful for the sacrifices they have made to serve our communities and keep us safe and comfortable.
We should be grateful for their brave efforts, whether they are taking care of patients or stocking grocery shelves or filling your car with petrol.
While many essential workers around the world took to striking at some point during the outbreak, South Africans stayed true to their duties while hiding their own fears and anxiety.
They need to be recognized for their heroism.
