Another edition of the Vodacom Meerkat Marathon takes place on Saturday, 3 February, in Kimberley.
This event, presented by the Kimberley Road Runners (KRR), serves as a qualifier for the Two Oceans and the Comrades Ultra Marathon.
It also serves as an Athletics Griqualand West (AGW) 10 km championship event.
The Vodacom Meerkat Marathon originated in 2015, says club secretary, Megan Coetzer.
“The race has been held every year, only taking a break during 2021. The event is the largest and most attended road running event in the Northern Cape.”
Coetzer says the club is looking to grow the numbers even more this year, with athletes who can register for the marathon, halfmarathon, 10 km or the 4,9 km fun run.
Online entries are already open and closes on 30 January. Late entries can be done manually from 31 January until 2 February – visit KRR at Bishop’s Club on these days from 17:30 to 20:00.
The event commences at 05:30 at Windhoek Draught Park.
Applications for market stalls are available.
