The Kimberley Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit requests the assistance of the public in tracing the 37-year-old Stephen Mundari, a Zimbabwean national, who can assist with the investigation of a number of vehicle theft cases.
He is believed to be in Cape Town.
It is alleged that members of the public who sell their vehicles on social media platforms are approached by a suspect from Kimberley to view the vehicles, said Sgt Timothy Sam, police spokesperson.
A decoy payment is allegedly then made to the seller who would then hand over the vehicle after receiving a payment notification on the phone.
Anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of the person of interest can contact detective WO Anthony Rheeder on 083-538-3520 or 053-807-9550 or 08600 10111 or send an SMS anonymously to 32211 or use the MySAPS App.
All information will be treated confidentially.
