The first boxing tournament in more than five years in Kimberley was a resounding success, says promoter Russle Bindeman.

The Fight Arts Promotion Boxing Tournament was held at Sun Flamingo’s open court on Saturday, 25 June.

“Ten fights were planned and all played off to a T,” Bindeman says.

The event commenced with a jujitsu pre-show, followed by professional boxing.

Gift Pilane won on points in a scintillating six-rounder outpointing a game with Mthobeni Quvile.

The big giants in the heavyweight division saw Xolani Xaluva knockout Masana Manganyi and remains undefeated.

In the female lightweight bout, Cape Town’s Simamkeli Ntutsheni overcame Ficksburg’s Cherice Smith in a very technical, but brutal bout in which both women displayed exceptional skill for debutants, said Bindeman.

Anyone interested in the Fight Arts can call coach King Kasimba at the Lifestyle Gym in Kimberley on 081-004-5310.

The next boxing tournament in Kimberley will take place on 1 October, hosted by Fight Arts Promotions.

Previously Bindeman says Fight Arts aims to revive the spirit and vibrancy the art of boxing had in Kimberley years ago.
