Yet another vehicle accident occurred on the notorious R31 road between Kuruman and Kimberley.
On Tuesday, 28 February, 13 people were injured when the minibus they travelled in, overturned on this road.
The accident happened approximately 20 km outside of Kuruman.
Russel Meiring, ER24 communication officer, said ER24 and other services arrived on the scene at 06:00 to find the minibus on its roof on the side of the road.
The passengers had already climbed out of the vehicle and were seated or lying near the vehicle.
Meiring said medics assessed the patients and found that 13 adults had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Fortunately, no fatalities were found.
The patients were treated, and the seriously injured were provided with advanced life support before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.
The exact details surrounding the incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
In 24 September, seven people – including a pregnant woman and children – were killed on the R31 road approximately 15 km outside of Kuruman during a head-on collision between two vehicles.
Apart from potholes, narrow lanes and other road-surface related problems on parts of the R31 road, it is also a main route for heavy-loaded trucks from mines in the Northern Cape to harbours.
Accidents on this extremely busy road happens often, and the road has previously been called “the road of the death”.
