Itumeleng Machabe (24) from Kimberley, accused of raping and killing the 11-year-old Relebogile Segami, has again appeared in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court.

The court has joined two cases against him.

According to Mojalefa Senokoatsane, regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, the suspect had another pending case of rape in the same court. He is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl.

The prosecution requested that the court allow the two matters to be heard together.

Machabe will now face one count of murder and two counts of rape.

The accused will be remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 19 May.

  • In a separate incident, Sandile Vaaibooi (34) faces three charges of murder, a charge of assault and a charge of malicious damage to property.

He has made a brief appearance in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court.

According to Senokoatsane, it is alleged that the accused forcefully entered the home of his uncle, Patrick Vaaibooi, and Angelina Kgatlane on 18 March.

After killing them, Vaaibooi reportedly went to attack another relative on the other side of town.

The victim, who was a member of the SAPS, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Vaaibooi was arrested by police officers from Barkly West.

The case, set to be heard in the Barkly West District Court, was postponed to 23 May.

The accused remains in custody.
