At a cost of R2,6 million, a new waste removal truck with a compactor body was recently handed over by Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen Mine to officials of the Gamagara Local Municipality.

This large truck can haul 21 m³ of waste.

“Service delivery serves as the cornerstone for community prosperity and must be priority,” says George Benjamin, Corporate Affairs and Social Performance manager at Sishen Mine.

“Uncollected waste possesses a threat to the health and safety of our communities.

“We believe that this new truck will ease some of the pressure on the council’s waste management team.”

The truck comes with a two-year service plan to ensure breakdowns are easily attended to.
