A gold and a silver medalist emerged yet again from the midst of Athletics Griqualand West (AGW) athletes during the 2023 Athletics South Africa (ASA) Youth and Junior Championships in Pietermaritzburg recently.
The management of AGW congratulated Danika Roets and Robyn-Lee Eland for their remarkable performance and for waving the federation’s flag high at this championship in late March.
Danika stepped forward as a South African champion and gold medalist in the girls U16 hammer throw event. She is a learner of the Diamantveld High School in Kimberley.
Robyn-Lee (16), a learner of the Hopetown High School, received a silver medal in the 200 m event for boys U18. He emerged as a national champion at the ASA U16, U18 and U20 Championships in April last year by winning a gold medal for finishing the U16 200 m event in 22.04. He also then won silver in the U16 100 m event.
Robyn-Lee was AGW’s athlete of the year for 2022.
